Mayfair is famed for its selection of upmarket restaurants, 5-star hotels and exclusive bars, but if you find yourself in the area early in the morning and you fancy a breakfast to kick start your day, where do you go? We have researched the area and come up with a list of places that suit all budgets. So here is our definitive guide to the best places for breakfast in Mayfair.

1 Sofra Restaurant

With two Mayfair locations (Shepherd Market and South Molton Street) this Middle Eastern restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Serving traditional breakfasts of the region plus English classics along with a range of fruit pancakes. Sofra offers terrific value for money. Also, enigmatic owner, chef and nutritionist Huseyin Ozer will  ensure you get a wholesome, healthy breakfast. Considering the location of the restaurants, Sofra represents remarkable value for money.

18 Shepherd St, London W1J 7JG and Ground Floor, 11 South Molton St, London W1K 5QJ

2 Popina

Popina is a lovely cafe on Duke Street that is less than 5 minutes from Bond Street station. It serves a full range of egg options until 3 pm, so it is ideal for late risers. Dishes include the traditional British breakfasts plus more exotic Green Shakshuka and Turkish eggs. Add to that granola, porridge, and French toast, and you will have more than enough choices to set you up for the day.

 83 Duke St, London W1K 5PF

3 Everbean Cafe

Hidden away in a side street (Avery Row) Everbean has modelled itself on the Melbourne Cafe scene. They offer healthy breakfast options such as homemade Granola, muesli, fresh pastries, and various toast options. Everbean has a lovely vibe and always is busy.

30 Avery Row, London W1K 4BB

4 Rex Deli

Tucked in Bruton Place is Rex Deli. This project is a sister to The Cocochine, led by the same team, ensuring food of the highest quality that reflects Chef Larry’s passion for excellent produce cooked with care. If you like savoury treats for breakfast the scotch eggs and sausage rolls are so good, if you have a sweet tooth you will love pastries. All are made in the Rex Deli kitchen.

5 Looking to spoil yourself…

If you are celebrating or just fancy spoiling yourself, Mayfair offers some of the most exclusive and special breakfast choices. This next section is dedicated to some of our favourite restaurants to go to be pampered and enjoy the finest breakfast choices in town.

6 HIDE restaurant

Michelin-starred HIDE is perched on Piccadilly overlooking Green Park. The restaurant has what is reputed to be the biggest wine cellar in Europe and is set on three floors. Unusually for Michelin-starred restaurants in the area, HIDE is open for breakfast.

The menu is split into four sections: Fruits, seeds and grains; Viennoiseries which are all baked freshly each morning on site; Caviar and Oysters; and a Savoury Selection, which includes the signature HIDE Croque Monsieur.

7 The Colony Grill

The Colony Grill is located in the stunning Art Deco Beaumont Hotel, hidden away in quiet Balderton Street, a mere 5-minute walk away from the hustle and bustle of Regent Street.

The Colony Grill is a special restaurant to eat in at any time of the day, but for breakfast, it is the perfect way to experience an English-cooked breakfast cooked to perfection. Along with a selection of traditional cooked options, also on the menu is pancakes and French toast. Also, how about porridge with honey from the beehives on the hotel’s roof? Full disclosure: this is one of my favourite hotel restaurants in London.

8 Balderton St, Brown Hart Gardens, London W1K 6TF

8 The Ritz

Breakfast at the Ritz
The Ritz for Breakfast

The Ritz is one of the world’s most famous and luxurious hotels. On the culinary side, it is famous for its Michelin-starred restaurant and afternoon teas. However, you can also experience the hotel’s glamour and breakfast at the Ritz. The menu lets you indulge yourself with continental and English breakfast or enhance your breakfast with traditional breakfast treats such as kippers and kedgeree. If your numbers have just come up on the lottery, you might want to celebrate with a Perigord truffle or caviar added to your plate of eggs,  obviously washed down with a glass of champagne.

150 Piccadilly, London W1J 9BR

9 The Wolseley

The Wolseley
The Wolseley restaurant

Just along the road from the Ritz the Wolseley is an equally impressive building and restaurant. The breakfast menu is possibly the largest of all the places we mentioned in our article. You name it, and it’s on the menu; in keeping with other inclusions in our luxury selection, they offer a selection of oysters and caviar, also a big tick for adding the British classic “bubble and squeak” which traditionally consisted of leftover potato and cabbage from the weekend roast. Add potato and cabbage to the frying pan and fry it to golden brown on both sides. Food writer Howard Hillman described bubble and squeak as one of the great pleasant dishes in the world, served with mushrooms and a duck egg this sounds like something I would very much like to order.

160 Piccadilly, London W1J 9EB

10 Mount Street Restaurant

Mount Street Restaurant has rapidly established itself as a staple in Mayfair. Located on the first floor above the popular pub, The Audley, it serves breakfast daily. The menu features a classic British breakfast, including meats sourced from their own Durslade Farm.

First Floor, 41-43 Mount St, London W1K 2RX

11 Browns Hotel

Browns is reputed to be the oldest hotel in London, so you would think they know a thing or two about serving breakfast. Everyday the drawing room at Browns  offers breakfast from 8-10 am.

Amongst the many delightful offerings includes Browns homemade granola, eggs Albemarle with hollandaise and smoked eel, St Ewe’s boiled egg with house-made gentlemen relish soldiers and Adam’s brulee porridge, tea-soaked prunes and evaporated milk.

33 Albemarle St, London W1S 4BP

So that ends our round-up of great places to eat the most important meal of the day in Mayfair. If you are looking to discover more about the lovely part of London you might enjoy the following articles.
