One of the most common questions I receive is whether there are any affordable places to eat in Mayfair. My response is always the same: yes, there are plenty of options that offer not only inexpensive meals but also well-cooked, high-quality food. In Mayfair, you’ll find pubs serving classic pub grub, as well as a variety of coffee bars and cafes with excellent menus. If I had to recommend the best spots, I’d suggest checking out North Audley Street, Mercato Mayfair food hall, and The Mayfair Chippy.

We covered the Mayfair Chippy in a previous article, so today is the turn of Mercato Mayfair. By strange coincidence, they are both located next to each other.

Mercato Mayfair Foodhall is an extraordinary sustainable food and drink venue situated within the stunning St. Mark’s Church on North Audley Street.

This vibrant culinary destination came to life by transforming a former church. This article will delve deeper into what makes Mercato Mayfair so special.

2 Overview-Mercato Mayfair History

Mercato Mayfair stands out as a remarkable permanent indoor food market situated in the heart of London’s upscale Mayfair district. Established in 2019 by Italian entrepreneur Andrea Rasca, this venue embodies a sustainable food and culture commitment. Inspired by the success of his initial venture, Mercato Metropolitano, in Milan, Italy, Rasca sought to replicate the experience in London. In 2016, he opened his first London location at Elephant & Castle, followed by Mercato Mayfair in 2019. The venue’s setting, the former St. Mark’s Church, is a Grade I-listed building with a rich history dating back to the 1820s. Having served various purposes over the years, including as a nightclub and restaurant, Rasca embarked on a two-year, £5 million restoration project to restore the church to its former glory.

3 Ethos

Mercato Mayfair’s ethos is a commitment to providing fresh, artisanal, and sustainably sourced food and ingredients. This commitment aligns perfectly with sustainability principles, a hallmark of Mercato’s five venues and gets a big tick from us.

The community spirit is alive and well at Mercato Mayfair, with a dedicated basement space hosting various community-based music events throughout the year.

5 The Experience

Neon sign in the basement in Mercato Mayfair Food hall

You will have probably guessed I’m a big fan of Mercato Mayfair and everything it stands for. I love the building and the vibe; it’s such a fun place to visit.

There are plenty of heavyweight restaurants in the area. Mercato Mayfair can go toe to toe with these and more than punch its weight.

So hats off to Andrea Rasca & the team at Mercato; it has become an important part of Mayfair’s culinary scene, loved by locals & visitors alike. So

Take time to experience the magic of Mercato Mayfair, where history meets sustainability in the heart of London’s Mayfair district.
