Best place for a coffee in Mayfair

March 31, 2025

Table of Contents

  • 1. HR Higgins
  • 2. Popina
  • 3. Attendant Mayfair
  • 4. Everbean
  • 5. Queens Mayfair
  • 6. District
  • 7. Art Space Claridges

Today, we look at the best place for a coffee in Mayfair. We niche down on the best coffee shops & for this article, we have not included coffee served in restaurants, hotels, pubs or bars.

This is all about Mayfair coffee shops, and there are plenty to choose from. So, if you are looking for Cool coffee shops in Mayfair then the Mayfair foodie has it covered. One thing, this list is not in any particular order as all the coffee shops listed are perfect places for you to go when visiting Mayfair, but none are massive chains that you can find in any high street in the UK. This list of coffee shops all have their very own identity & differ in decor & style, but all serve great coffee.

We start our listing with 3 coffee shops all on Duke Street, I’ve no idea why Duke Street should be a mecca for great coffee but it is.

1 HR Higgins

For those who think coffee shops are relatively new to the UK, HR Higgins was ahead of its time & opened in 1942, bang smack in the middle of the second world war. It was founded by Harold Rupert Higgins (hence the name). It has been at its current location 79 Duke Street since 1986

Over the years, HR Higgins has become a fixture in the London coffee scene, known for its high-quality blends and personalised service. The business has been passed down through the Higgins family and is now run by Rupert Higgins, Harold’s grandson.

The coffee shop continues to roast its coffee & blend its wide range of teas, and serve sandwiches & snacks. If you like tradition with great coffee, this is the place for you—proud owner of a well-deserved Royal warrant.

2 Popina

Popina Coffee shop, best place for a coffee in Mayfair
Popina Duke Street

Popina is a cafe serving great coffee and using Square Mile roasted coffee beans, hand-crafted chaaddo teas, and an irresistible 70% dark chocolate in their hot chocolate alongside a fantastic food selection. The breakfast they offer a standard full English breakfast but for something different, the Green Shakshuka and Raclette cheese melt caught my eye as a different way to start the day.

Overall a really nice place to visit and as its only a few doors along from HR Higgins maybe try both, the coffee in Popina is very good.

3 Attendant Mayfair

Attendant Mayfair is situated within the French Connection store on Duke Street, it works really well. Attendant are serious Coffee roasters with all their coffee beans ethically sourced. Attendant has 6 London shops, with the first opening in 2013, in a quirky disused Victorian toilet in Fitzrovia.

It’s clear the message from the team at Attendant ethos is based on being as sustainable as possible. The quote below is a testament to that :

“Our tireless search for superior coffee sources is important for flavour, but also socially sustainable practices. Through direct trade, our green importers are able to support farms and mills with full traceability of the coffee in your cup.” To complete the picture the milk also comes from a sustainable dairy farm Trewithen Dairy

They also offer a wide range of other beverages & a really good food selection with a range of Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options

Before we move out of Duke Street opposite HR Higgins and Popina is the Barley Mow, a great option for those of you that might want something strong to go with your coffee

4 Everbean

Everbean is a coffee shop located in Avery Row, a charming lane that connects Grosvenor Street to Brooke Street. It has been described as a hidden gem due to its location. The owners, Jess and Onur Sav, were inspired by the Melbourne cafe scene after spending 8 years in Australia.

Everbean is a popular spot that offers a wide range of coffees and teas, as well as a lovely menu of sandwiches, cakes, and salads. It is also open in the evening, serving wines, beers, spirits and even cocktails.

5 Queens Mayfair

Queens Mayfair

Queens of Mayfair and one of the most luxurious Cafe’s in London.

Their Coffee beans are sourced from Difference Coffee, which provides the highest-grade coffee in the world. It’s so top-notch that it’s used in many Michelin-starred restaurants!

Other than these Michelin-starred restaurants, Queens of Mayfair is the only place in the world to serve up Difference Coffee.

As well as great coffee, you can enjoy a wide range of drinks, including champagne (I told you it was luxurious), a perfect food offering. As well as all this, you can enjoy the surroundings with an afternoon tea or bottomless brunch. Such excellence is not cheap, but it’s all about the experience.

17 Queen Street, Mayfair, W1J 5PH

6 District

District Coffee Mayfair

District is nestled in a charming mews. Along with their signature coffee blend they serve a wide range of teas and drinks (including alcohol) They offer an eclectic food menu. The friendly enthusiastic team creates a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the cafe.

One final tick in the box for District, I did notice on their website they say they will be certified as a BCorp company soon, as somebody who worked for a company with BCorp status I realise how hard it is to attain & maintain that status, also what it says about the company, so well done the to the team at District.

7 Art Space Claridges

Art Space Claridges

The new kid on the block is Claridges art Space, directly opposite District. Full disclosure time, many apologies I have been yet but did take this rather nice picture, a friend of mine has sampled the coffee and described it as coffee & culture together. As the name suggests, there will be regular art exhibitions on view whilst you enjoy coffee, or something stronger. Artspace is open for breakfast through to lunch, closing at 6 p.m. in the week.

So there we have it: The Mayfair foodie guide to the best coffee place in Mayfair, in researching this feature I drank more coffee than probably is good for you but it was well worth it.

If your favourite Coffee shop is not listed, please feel free to send us a message below explaining why it should make the Mayfair foodie list.
