Greenhills Country House Hotel, Jersey

A Charming Retreat in Jersey’s Green Heart

A Charming Retreat in Jersey’s Green Heart

Greenhills Country House Hotel, Jersey

It always surprises me how many people say they’ve never visited Jersey when I mention I’m going there. Conversely, those who have been are often regular returners, myself included, which tells its own story.. After a few years’ absence, it was time for another visit, and my first stay at Greenhills Country House Hotel, to give it its full title.

I’ve visited Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, many times, but have not visited since 2017. This was our first visit to Greenhills Country House Hotel in St Peter.

Greenhills Country House Hotel, part of the Seymours Hotel Group, has no connection to me, despite my surname being Seymour. It would have been handy to claim I was a distant relation to the Seymour family. The family have owned hotels on the island for over 100 years!

Our visit coincided with the 80th anniversary of the Channel Islands’ Liberation from German forces in the Second World War, it was lovely to join in the celebrations to mark the liberation, luckily the sun came out play to add to the party atmosphere.

The hotel is just a 10-minute drive from the airport in St Peter’s tiny green lanes. From the hotel, you are less than 15 minutes from St Helier, the capital by car.

On arival, you walk through a beautiful, sheltered garden, past the pool area, into the main granite country house. This four-star hotel, with 33 rooms, dates back to 1674 and houses the reception, bar, and restaurant. We stayed in a ground-floor superior plus room in a newly built wing, with our patio doors opening onto the pool area. Our friends had a suite on the third floor. Both rooms were tastefully furnished to a very high standard.

Hotel Facilities and Service

The four-star hotel offers 33 rooms, a small heated swimming pool with a jacuzzi, and plenty of sun loungers. The weather was glorious, so we made good use of the pool area. There’s ample parking at the front and a beautiful, sheltered floral garden.

The service throughout our stay was exceptional, creating an informal, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. The General Manager, Carmelita, is hands-on and sets the tone for the hotel’s outstanding service.

 Bar and Restaurant

On our first night, we dined at the hotel’s 2 AA Rosette restaurant, choosing from the set menu (£49.50 for three courses) and the à la carte options. The menu features a wide selection of local produce, with fish prominent.

I started with octopus carpaccio and then monkfish katsu curry. Other standout dishes included hand-dived Jersey scallops and an unctuous Lancashire hotpot.

As you can see from the pictures below, the pastry chef deserves a big pat on the back—my chocolate and almond torte was as delightful as it looked. Sadly, I couldn’t try the other desserts, a quick glance around our table revealed that no one was sharing.

Desserts

The wine list is impressive, with wines by the glass starting at £8.55. The restaurant is popular with non-residents, so booking ahead is advisable.

For breakfast, I recommend paying extra when booking. The table-service breakfast, cooked to order, showcases the kitchen’s high-quality produce.

The bar was a highlight, and we thoroughly tested its offerings day and night. Jersey’s Liberation Ale is on tap, alongside lager and cider, and there’s a full cocktail list—perfect as an aperitif or a late-night pick-me-up (we can testify the later). The bar menu ranges from sandwiches to full meals.

 Final Thoughts and Recommendations

Greenhills Country House Hotel exceeded our expectations, offering everything we value in a hotel. I’d happily return for my next Jersey fix.

One tip: if you plan to explore the island, hire a car. Car hire in Jersey is reasonable. Since my last visit, taxi fares have become expensive—local firms seem to assume you have had a nice win on the lottery!
