Embark on a Gastronomic Adventure Through Mayfair’s Top Italian eateries

1 Introduction

As a committed foodie, I think about food a lot. One of my first questions in the morning will be, what‘s for lunch or what shall we cook tonight?

In one of my foodie daydreams, I started thinking about different cuisines, and the question in my head was what was the most liked. I came to the conclusion that the most universally popular cuisine across the world is Italian. Now, I’m prepared to listen to anybody who argues differently, and I have no data or scientific evidence to confirm this. Still, I don’t know anybody with a strongly negative opinion of Italian food.

Why is that? It is a cuisine for everybody. It can be simple, fancy, hearty, light, spicy, wholesome, healthy and most importantly, very good and tasty.

It’s the same with the ingredients Italians use everything, and there is a dish for everyone.

It’s time to highlight the great selection of Italian restaurants in Mayfair. Some serve authentic Italian cuisine, while others push the boundaries to showcase Italy’s gastronomy.

Pull up a chair, pour yourself your favourite glass of Chanti, and discover the best Italian restaurants in Mayfair.

2 Murano: A Culinary Gem in the Heart of Mayfair

Angela Hartnetts Murano

Located in the heart of Mayfair, Murano is a  gem that offers a modern twist on traditional Italian cuisine.

With Michelin-starred chef Angela Hartnett at the helm, Murano promises an unforgettable dining experience. Angela’s Italian background is evident in her food, which showcases her love and passion for simple ingredients, combined with her culinary skill to create world-class dishes.

If you’re a fine dining lover, Murano is a must-visit destination. Michelin-starred Murano ranks as one of the best restaurants Mayfair.

3 Sartoria: Mordern Day Italian Elegance

Satoria

Another restaurant with a superstar chef. This time it’s Francesco Mazzei. Franco comes from a family in Italy’s southern region of Calabria and, luckily for us, has found his way into Mayfair’s Saville Row.

I saw Francesco was featured on Stanley Tucci’s BBC TV series “Searching for Italy” it’s where Stanley revealed that Francesco cooked Stanley’s wedding breakfast.  Coincidentally, Angela Hartnett was on the same series.

The food is definitely inspired by the Calabria region, with seafood at the forefront, but it includes many Italian dishes with a modern twist.

Tagliatelle al Ragu Bianco with Veal and Truffles or the Roasted Sea Bass with Lentils and Salsa Verde are dishes that deserve a special mention.

4 Novikov: Italian classics are given a contemporary twist

Fresh Pasta at Novikov

Since 2012, Novikov’s fining dining restaurants have been pulling in the crowds. The Italian restaurant is downstairs and has been designed to transport you to the Italian market kitchen and courtyard. No expense was spared on the decor. The food delivers the same opulence with stunning pasta dishes, fresh fish and the best meats on the grill. The restaurant has a wood oven to tempt you with pizza with truffle or seafood. Even the humble Bruschetta is served with Gold Powder.

The restaurant offers a fine dining experience in a relaxed setting. Also, it’s worth pointing out that for any partygoers out there, they are open until 1 a.m.

5 Bocconcino Mayfair: Embracing Authentic Italian Flavours in a Chic Setting

Boccooncino, Italian Restaurants in Mayfair

While the décor at Bocconcino exudes a touch of Mayfair glamour rather than rustic Italian charm, the menu remains steadfastly rooted in Italian culinary traditions.

The à la carte menu draws inspiration from Italy’s diverse regions, spanning from the sun-kissed landscapes of Tuscany to the bustling streets of Rome, the historic allure of Sicily to the vibrant energy of Naples, the birthplace of Head Chef Marco Corsica.

Alongside their signature homemade pasta, Bocconcino’s menu showcases an array of freshly baked pizzas in their own wood-fired oven.

6 Cipriani Timeless Elegance and Classic Venetian Cuisine

Cipriani London, Italian Restaurants in London

Step inside and let the timeless elegance wash over you. Plush velvet seating, gleaming marble floors, and walls adorned with Italian artistry transport you to a bygone era of refined dining.

The attentive staff, clad in crisp white suits, glide through the room like seasoned ballet dancers, ensuring your every need is met with the utmost grace.

Now, let’s talk about the food. At Cipriani, Venetian cuisine reigns supreme. Indulge in their signature Antipasti Misti Cipriani, a symphony of delectable bites that will have your taste buds doing a jig. Or are you more of a pasta aficionado? Their tagliatelle al ragù is a must-try, a testament to the simplicity and perfection of Italian cooking.

And don’t forget to quench your thirst with their iconic Bellini cocktail, a refreshing blend of sparkling prosecco and white peach purée. It’s the perfect way to toast to La Dolce Vita in Mayfair.

7 Il Borro Tuscan Bistro: A Slice of Tuscany in the Heart of London

Il Borro

Step into a haven of Tuscan charm just a stone’s throw from Bocconcino Mayfair, where Il Borro Tuscan Bistro awaits. Founded by the esteemed Ferragamo family, this culinary gem seamlessly blends the rustic allure of the Tuscan countryside with the refined elegance of Mayfair.

Indulge in a symphony of flavours that will transport you straight to the rolling hills of Tuscany. Enjoy the Tagliata di Manzo, which consists of tender slices of beef infused with the aromatic essence of Tuscan herbs. Alternatively, embark on a culinary adventure with the Pappardelle al Ragu di Cinghiale, where succulent wild boar ragu dances playfully with wide ribbons of pappardelle pasta.

8 Cecconi’s Mayfair

Back in 1978, Enzo Cecconi, the renowned youngest-ever general manager of the iconic Cipriani in Venice, brought his passion for Italian cuisine to London with the opening of Cecconi’s. This was the first time that Londoners were able to indulge in fresh pasta, delectable beef carpaccio, mouth-watering tiramisu, rocket salads, and signature Bellini cocktails. Enzo believed in providing not just an exceptional culinary experience, but also a theatrical one by finishing dishes in front of his guests’ eyes, thereby adding a touch of spectacle to the dining experience.

Cecconi’s is acelebration of the Italian culinary tradition, focusing on handmade pasta, succulent seafood, and a diverse array of dishes crafted from the finest ingredients.

Escape to the enchanting Da Corradi, a traditional Italian trattoria that’ll warm your soul with its cosy ambience and authentic flavours. Nestled in the heart of Mayfair, Da Corradi’s homemade pasta and hearty dishes will transport you to the comfort of a home-cooked Italian meal. Indulge in the classic Spaghetti alla Norma or the hearty Ossobuco alla Milanese, and let the flavours dance on your tongue.

11 Piccolino Heddon Street: Modern Italian restaurant Heddon Street

Piccolino is a restaurant located in fashionable Heddon Street that offers a modern Italian dining experience. Its lively atmosphere and varied menu make it an ideal choice for casual lunches or sophisticated dinners. Some of the recommended dishes include the signature Spaghetti al Limone and the grilled Branzino served with Roasted Vegetables.

21 Heddon St, London W1B 4BG

12 Delfino: A Hidden Gem with Authentic Sicilian Flavours

Delfino’s history is like a tasty Italian dish – it’s rich, flavorful, and full of tradition. Their roots are firmly planted in the heart of classic Italian culture and cuisine, which makes Delfino so special.

Delfino was born in a year that sparked excitement and changed the jubilant coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Not many Mayfair restaurants can boast such a history.

121A Mount St, London W1K 3NW

13 Il Gattopsardo: New Italian restaurants in Mayfair
