North Audley Street connects Grosvenor Square to Oxford Street and is a perfect respite from the hustle & bustle of Oxford Street. This lovely tree-lined street offers plenty of places to chill out after some serious retail therapy.
History
North Audley Street is in the Mayfair district of the City of Westminster, London. It was built in the 1720s as a part of the Grosvenor Estate development of Mayfair. The street was named after Hugh Audley, a lawyer, merchant, and the first Earl of Castlehaven. The road has residential and commercial buildings, including a ne-Georgian block of flats, a church, and business premises. The area was once home to several pubs, but most closed down due to the anti-drink campaign of the first Duke of Westminster in the late 19th century.
North Audley Restaurants
So here we go with a list of the Restaurants on North Audley Street. We start with a sustainable food hall that, in the strictest sense, is not a restaurant but 12 restaurants in one location.
Mercato Mayfair
Mercato is the brainchild of Andrea Rasca, founder & CEO of Mercato Metropolitano. Andrea opened his first UK sustainable food in the Elephant & Castle. It was an instant success; the Grosvenor estates asked Andrea if he could replicate Mercato in the former St Marks church.
The result is a cultural hub of sustainable, authentic food over two floors. Mercato Mayfair also is home to a wine bar, distillery & brewery,
The beautifully restored Church, with its stunning stained glass windows, is the perfect home for a selection of fantastic food. As you can probably tell, I’m a big fan of Mercato & the North Audley home for the Mayfair Mercato is a must-see for any foodie visiting the area. You can indulge yourself with a choice of food from across the globe without blowing the budget. Who does not like quality food at affordable prices?
Ivy Asia
The Ivy Asia is a recent extension to the popular Ivy chain of restaurants based on the famous & original Ivy on West Street, Soho, that found fame in the 1990s as a celebrity hotspot. The Ivy group has grown & the new Ivy Asia concept has eight restaurants in the UK. As the name suggests, the cuisine is Asian, featuring dishes across the continent.
Ivy Asia offers an A La carte menu, set menus, lunch menu, afternoon tea & a bar menu. The Mayfair restaurant also boasts a dedicated Sushi bar. As with all Ivy restaurants, the decor is stunning & Ivy Asia Mayfair will not disappoint as the restaurant features 12 cherry blossom trees taking you to the very heart of Japan.

The Mayfair Chippy
The Mayfair Chippy is the self-acclaimed poshest fish & chips in town. We had the pleasure of reviewing “the chippy” a few weeks ago and discovered what all the fuss was about. Situated next door to Mercato Mayfair, both venues draw a crowd. The Mayfair Chippy has queues of people waiting for a table. I advise making a reservation as you can wait a while for a table.
So, on the one hand, this is not your usual chippy, for example, a restaurant menu with a great selection of starters such as salt & pepper squid, heritage beetroot salad, and battered king prawns. Add to that oysters, mussels, and grilled fish from the market. An extensive wine & gin list & even champagne on the menu confirms this.
On the other hand, the classic fish & chips served with mushy peas, curry sauce & homemade tartar sauce is traditional chippy food & you can even order the chippy favourite of a battered Wally (a wally is a gherkin).
Fish & Chips, unsurprisingly, is the most popular dish on the menu at the Mayfair Chippy & they do it very well. If you are visiting town & want to try traditional fish & chips, then the Mayfair Chippy is for you. Just remember to book.

Saltie Girl Seafood Bar
Next door to the Mayfair Chippy, the Salty Girl is a fine-dining fish restaurant. The menu features a lunch menu, all day menu & a tin menu.
I have not eaten at Saltie Girl yet, but I gather that the tin dishes are exactly what it says: fish served in tins. Tin dishes include various varieties of fish such as Mackeral, Squid, sardines & scallops with different oils or sauces, and all dishes are served with a trio of salts, crunchy butter, pickled piparra peppers, piquillo pepper jam, and French bread. It sounds similar to small plates.
The all-day menu showcases Dover sole, Monkfish, Lobster and Sea Bass. With restaurants
With restaurants in Boston & Los Angeles, Saltie Girl is an exciting addition to the Mayfair Restaurant scene.
