A Budget-Friendly Dining Guide

One of the most frequent questions I receive as the Mayfair Foodie is: “Is there anywhere in Mayfair where I can eat out without paying a fortune?” My answer is always an emphatic YES. However, I often find myself listing options and forgetting one or two excellent choices along the way.
To help with future enquiries, I’ve compiled this comprehensive guide: “Where to eat in Mayfair for under £20”. While I’m basing these recommendations on single dishes rather than feeding a family of four, the key point is that you can enjoy a well-cooked, wholesome plate of food in the heart of Mayfair – arguably London’s most affluent district.
Best Budget Restaurants in Mayfair Under £20
1. Mercato Mayfair
Address: St Mark’s Church, North Audley Street, Mayfair, London W1K 6ZA

I simply had to start with Mercato Mayfair (read my full review here), featuring no fewer than 12 sustainable food outlets offering an extensive range of cuisines from pasta and pizza to Malaysian, Thai, and Indian. This foodie’s paradise is housed in a beautifully restored former church, creating a unique dining atmosphere in central London.
Most dishes are priced well under £20, and the quality is incredible. I visit regularly and am never disappointed. Whether you’re craving artisanal pizza, fresh pasta, or exotic Asian flavours, Mercato Mayfair delivers exceptional value for money in Mayfair’s premium dining scene.
2. Sofra Restaurant
Address: 18 South Molton Street, Mayfair, London W1K 5QF

South Molton Street and ‘budget dining’ are rarely mentioned in the same sentence; however, a visit to Sofra restaurant, owned by the charismatic Hüseyin Özer, will change your perspective. The menu bursts with Middle Eastern options under £20, including fresh fish, perfectly grilled meats, and authentic Turkish classics. They even offer a special steak and chips for under twenty pounds.
Not only does this Mayfair restaurant provide excellent value, but it also serves healthy, nutritious food. Hüseyin wouldn’t have it any other way, making Sofra one of the best affordable dining options in Mayfair.
3. Delfino
Address: 121a Mount Street, Mayfair, London W1K 3NW
Situated on prestigious Mount Street, Delfino operates alongside Michelin-starred restaurants and The Connaught Hotel. Established in 1953, Delfino knows a thing or two about serving Italian classics. While you’ll find several pasta dishes under £20, it’s the extensive pizza section that truly shines, with over 20 authentic Italian pizzas priced below our magical £20 target.
The restaurant’s commitment to traditional Italian cooking methods and quality ingredients makes it an exceptional choice for budget-conscious diners seeking authentic Italian cuisine in Mayfair.
4. The Clarence
Address: 53 Dover Street, Mayfair, London W1S 4NB
The Clarence is a charming historic pub on Dover Street, less than a five-minute walk from The Ritz. Their food offering includes breakfast, snacks, and sandwich menus – all options under £20. However, it’s the main menu that particularly interests budget-conscious diners, with approximately 80% of options below our £20 limit, including their famous pies and hearty burgers.
Unfortunately, the Sunday roast menu slightly exceeds our budget, but it still represents excellent value for traditional British pub fare in the heart of Mayfair.
5. Entrée Bakery
Address: 2 Bruton Place, Mayfair, London W1J 6NL

You don’t encounter many Tbilisi bakeries in the UK, so we’re incredibly fortunate to have one in Mayfair, located on one of my favourite foodie streets, Bruton Place. Entree, the family-run Georgian bakery is absolutely worth visiting for an authentic cultural dining experience.
Serving traditional Georgian pies, breads, cakes, and pastries all freshly baked daily, the menu also features traditional dishes from Tbilisi. My personal favourite is the Chakhokhbili Chicken – a delightful spicy Georgian stew that perfectly represents the restaurant’s authentic approach to Caucasian cuisine.
6. Ye Grapes
Address: 16 Shepherd Market, Mayfair, London W1J 7QQ
Located in the heart of Shepherd Market, Ye Grapes has been serving drinks since 1882. The food menu offers a complete selection of Thai cuisine alongside several British pub classics, all comfortably within our budget range.
This historic Mayfair establishment perfectly combines traditional British pub atmosphere with excellent Thai food, creating a unique dining experience that’s both affordable and memorable.
7. The Farm Shop
Address: 64 South Audley Street, Mayfair, London W1K 2QT

The Farm Shop on South Audley Street features a downstairs wine bar – a lovely place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. If you’re feeling peckish, the menu includes numerous dishes under £20. While the charcuterie and cheese boards exceed our limit (they are designed for sharing), the wonderful rotisserie chicken is also over budget. However, the Old Spot pork belly with roasted Bramley apple purée and triple-cooked potatoes presents a delicious option at £17.50.
Honourable Mention: The Mayfair Chippy
Address: 14 North Audley Street, Mayfair, London W1K 6WE

Please forgive me for breaking my own rules, but I simply had to include The Mayfair Chippy, located next door to Mercato Mayfair. “The chippy” is arguably Mayfair’s busiest restaurant. Their classic fish and chips includes mushy peas, homemade tartare sauce, and either gravy or curry sauce for £25.50. Trust me – it’s worth exceeding the budget for this exceptional take on Britain’s national dish.
